2011 was the first year where all categories apart from the Big Chip International Award for Innovation were open to entries from the North of England - anywhere north of Derby and south of Scotland.
Two new categories were introduced in 2011: Best Mobile Project and Best Use of Social Media.
Special awards
Big Chip International Award for Innovation
Open to entries from anyone, anywhere. This prestigious award was created in 2008 to celebrate 10 years of Big Chip and 60 years since the invention of the stored programme computer in Manchester. The award is given to the best digital innovation of the last year and is open to entries from anywhere in the world.
Big Chip New Media Agency Award
Awarded by the judges to the agency they feel has done the best new media work during the year.
Anthony Wilson Original Modern Award
In honour of the late Anthony Wilson, and selected from all the shortlisted entries by a special guest judge.
Chosen by popular vote from a shortlist drawn up by the judges
Awarded by the judges to the entry that impressed the most.
