Projects have longer to demonstrate success
The Big Chip Awards celebrate what's new in the digital sector in the North. In previous years a clause in the rules stipulated that projects (campaigns, products or services) should have been 'completed' in the 12 months leading up to the closing date.
However, the judges use objective criteria and look for evidence of success in assessing the entries - so for example the winner of the Best E-business Award will have shown how the project has generated business or improved the business process. For bigger projects this may be impossible to show in the first year: the real benefits may materialise later.
So in 2012 for the first time, entries are welcome for any project that can demonstrate significant new success during the previous year, even if it was completed or launched earlier. The new rules state:
"The project as entered must have been launched, redeveloped or shown substantial measurable progress at some time between 15 March 2011 and 5 March 2012"
