The judges said

"The winner of this category combined a sound knowledge of the subject with excellent design skills and a playful interface that appeals directly to its target audience."

Entrant’s description

Things To Come is a pilot project for use at school on laptops or whiteboards before visiting live performance by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Through interaction and creative engagement children are familiarized with the piece offering a heightened appreciation of the music they will later experience in the live concert. The output is a beautiful creation that lives in the happy space between passive and interactive engagement – you’ll be sitting back and enjoying, and leaning forwards and interacting. Nothing replaces a real orchestra experience, but our app can augment, and enhance the real world with virtual and visual learning.

The judges said

"The winner here is a well-designed site that clearly understands its users and their needs. It is elegant rather than flashy, and values user experience above extravagant design. By presenting well researched and interesting information in a clear and succinct interface, the winner does what far too many education sites struggle to do - it makes learning easy, interesting and engaging."

Entrant's description

Licence to Cook gives secondary school pupils the opportunity to learn how to cook as part of an initiative to improve school food and fight childhood obesity. Pupils are taught how to cook a nutritious meal, learn about nutrition, hygiene and safety, practical food preparation and wise food shopping.
The software, developed by Lightbox | 3T, provides online tutorials, activities and multiple choice assessments along with progress-tracking and reporting. The site caters for pupils in schools which do not offer food technology or cooking facilities for children.
Resources include video demos, interactives, lesson plans, recipes, and worksheets.
