The winner is....

Aerelink Limited, Wide Area Network Connectivity Project

The winner here solved the problem of providing broadband access for Dundee’s schools in a really cost-effective way. The service provided connectivity to 41 schools at half the cost of the previous leased fixed line approach.

"Aerelink were invited to tender for a project to connect Primary and Secondary Schools to the wide area network by Dundee City Council. Aerelink’s proposition involved Innovative wireless technology to connect schools rationalising the use of expensive traditional telecommunication links.

Against stiff competition Aerelink were awarded the contract. Subsequently the wide area network has grown beyond the initial education sites and now more and more corporate sites are also connected via wireless systems.

The solution provided by Aerelink provides multiple benefits, including providing an upgrade path, greatly increasing the available bandwidth and decreasing the ongoing revenue costs by over 50%."

Judging Criteria

"An entry in this category can be any digital project commissioned by or executed by a public sector agency, for example a public sector website, or an e-government project. Entrants should demonstrate how the project has achieved objectives for the public sector in a cost effective way.  Submissions should indicate which public sector organisation commissioned or executed the project so that this can be verified."
