Code was appointed in December 2004 to develop a new e-commerce site for made to measure and ready made blinds supplier Web-blinds.com. The redesign was called for as the company’s unique position in the market, the only online supplier, was being challenged by new entrants. Web-blinds wanted to appeal to a younger market with an average age of between 25-40 and move away from the brand values of its owner, Hilary’s – a large offline blinds specialist – whose target audience is more suited to a personal in-home service and are more mature customers.
The initial site launched in April 2005 and a second phase to improve conversion rates was undertaken in August of the same year. Web-blinds was given its own identity with a new colour palette; site copy was reworked to improve SEO – moving the site to the first page for searches of ‘blinds’ on Google; a simpler ordering process was introduced and interactive tools were featured to enhance the buying process. An immediate 11.5% rise in visitors was recorded on launch and conversion rates rose to 2.55% from 1.34% before launch, rising again to 4% following the second phase of work. Sales for April 2005 – Feb 2006 are up by more than 20%.
